RCGS Amsterdam is a newly installed chapter dedicated to studying collaborative spaces in Amsterdam and the wider Randstad area of the Netherlands.

We are particularly interested in the interlinkages between the Dutch capital’s rich heritage of alternative spaces for culture, creative production and social experiment, and the more recent emergence of business-oriented working landscapes for start-ups, creative entrepreneurship and co-working.

The empirical focus of our members’ research includes, among many other things: maker spaces, commercially run third spaces, publicly funded buildings for creative production and social initiatives, and open work spaces within academia.

Our kick-off session took place in A Lab Amsterdam and we aim to get together every few months to discuss work in progress, visit collaborative spaces of various kinds, and foster opportunies for collaboration and exchange between the researchers.

Please contact coordinators Katie Stephenson and Boukje Cnossen if you want to join us.

#RGCSAmsterdam is coordinated by Boukje Cnossen (Leuphana University Lüneburg) and Katie Stephenson (VU).
